Players can choose to play at the following tournament table types:
- Single Tournaments
- Multi-Table Tournaments
Tournaments Overview
Single Table Tournaments:
- Are tournaments that only require one table. The number of Players required to start the tournament is limited.
- Run continuously, provided that the required number of Players have joined the tournament.
- Are displayed in the Choose Your Game box in the Lobby. You may join the tournament at any time. Once the minimum number of Players required has joined the tournament, the tournament begins.
Note:
Tournament poker games use the rules of the Poker game played, but there are tournament specific rules that apply.
To join a Single Table Tournament you follow the same procedure as joining a normal Poker game, except when you sit down at a Single Table Tournament you must pay a fixed buy-in amount.
Multi Table Tournaments:
- Are scheduled tournaments that consist of one or more tables to accommodate each Player that registers for the tournament.
- All game types can be played as a Multi-Table Tournament.
Note:
You cannot join the tournament once it has started.
The maximum number of Players that can enter the tournament may be limited or not, depending on the tournament.
The number of prize positions offered in a tournament determines the minimum number of Players required for the tournament to begin. For example, if a tournament offers prizes for first, second and third place in the tournament, the tournament requires a minimum of three Players to begin. If the minimum number of Players required have not registered at the time the tournament is scheduled to begin, the tournament is automatically canceled. All buy-in amounts and entrance fees are refunded to your accounts.
To play in a tournament that you have registered for, you must log on to the Multi-Player Poker system prior to the tournament's start time on the appropriate day. Once the tournament is open, you are automatically seated at the table to play.
As Players are eliminated from the tournament, remaining Players are moved and tables are consolidated, until only one table remains in the tournament. This is known as Table Balancing.
Tournament Glossary
- Add-On The add-on feature enables players to bring more money to the table during the tournament. Players are only offered this option once and it is offered automatically to players at the end of the hand after the re-buy period has ended. The add-on feature may be available or not, and is determined by the house per tournament.
- Free Roll A free roll is a multi table tournament that has no buy-in requirement. There may however be other conditions such as a specific number of raked hands in order to gain entry to the free roll
- Re-Buy The re-buy feature enables players to buy back in to a tournament. Players have a limited number of re-buy options per tournament and can only buy back in to the tournament within the re-buy period. Players can re-buy at any time, if they have less chips than what they started the tournament with and still have re-buy options available, by clicking the chips button. The re-buy and add-on dialog box is then displayed at the end of the hand. The re-buy option is offered automatically to players that are eliminated during the re-buy period.
- Table Balancing As a multi-table tournament progresses, the multi-player poker system consolidates tables and tries to maintain an equal number of players at all remaining tables. If a Player needs to be moved to maintain balance, the Multi-Player Poker system randomly selects the Player at one of the tables with the most remaining Players, and moves that Player to one of the tables with the least remaining number of Players. The Player that is moved is seated at the new table as far away from the big blind as possible, according to the available seats. This advantage equalizes the disadvantage of being moved to a table where the Player is less familiar with the opponents.
